The flash lock at Bainton Road, Tallington

Situated immediately at the foot of the Tallington Village lock, this flash lock kept the road clear of water when not needed.

Tight seals on the lock and a big sluice above the lock pen helped to manage the ford across the road.

Being wasteful and reducing the depth for boats going up it was replaced by a stone bridge at some time between 1813 and 1853.

Lock 5 1850
