The canal went from Stamford to the bend beyond Market Deeping, as part of the Welland Navigation shown in blue, .

This website is a personal attempt to right the wrongs of history and put the Stamford Canal in its rightful position as England’s first proper post roman canal.

The first recorded research was by Martin Palmer and Maurice Berrill in the late 1950s, as described here:

Garland Grylls was the next to try and his 1998 notes are attached here.
