Construction of High Lock

Because High Lock or Briggens as it was also known as, was alongside the main road, the lock gates were slightly different to Top Lock.

Close inspection shows the 2 paddle gates used to empty the lock were both on the same gates - away from the road! This would aid security and speed up single-handed operation going through the lock.

The bridge had also changed from the lower end to the top and this was repeated at Low Lock.

The iron work for the door on the right above is still there 350 years later!

As is the whole of the lock pen!
