Construction of Low Lock
Low Lock was on an island opposite fields, so the lock gates again needed to be different to Top Lock. The 2 paddle gates used to empty the lock would again be both on the same gates - but on the opposite side to High Lock. (as the impression below shows)
A bridge was necessary to get over the weir to the island and another may have been necessary over the canal to get to the chains of the gates on the other side or a long pole could have been used.
A very awkward first lock as the weirs were next to the bank and a new cut had to be made on the spit of land beyond (now Scout Island).
All that is left now is the weir and a section of the lock pen below.
