Membership is open to all those who are not still in full-time employment, the majority of our 600 members are fully retired. There are no residence or other qualifications needed, the annual subscription is shown on the application form and is currently ten pounds. You’re very welcome to come to a couple of our meetings as a guest, before you decide to become a member.
By far the best way to join is to come one of our monthly meetings, held on the first Monday morning of every month – or the second if that is a Bank Holiday Monday. They are held in Barn Hill Methodist Church – the church is on the right walking up the cobbled street from the Crown Hotel. Take the tunnel on the right just before the church entrance and use the back entrance into the church and reception areas.
But it’s much easier to park in the North Street car park, next to the police station, then go over the hill and use the rear church entrance on the left as you go down. It’s a gap in the old town wall signposted Trinity Methodist Church, Barn Hill – postcode PE9 2ZS. There is coffee and user registration from 9:45 am in the meeting rooms at rear of the church and you can pick up the latest newsletter and someone will show you round.
After 10am, there’s usually a steady stream of members you can just follow in. Go up the ramp behind the church and into the meeting room directly in front. Against the far wall will be 4 registration tables, go to the left hand table which will be manned by Beverley, our membership secretary, and ask about joining.
The meeting starts at 10:30 and is held in the Methodist Church itself – there are announcements from the chairman followed by a talk or entertainment which usually lasts about an hour.
