Previous attempts to document the Welland Navigation and Stamford Canal had quite a few problems due to more accurate information being found later!
The Stamford Council archives were an important early source; with the town's transport requirements, reports of how the canal was promoted and its financing.
Others had written about parts of it; and how it may have been used.
This website builds on that research, storing it in one place then adding the latest information; hoping to bring it to life, keep it up-to-date, and then showing how it was used for 200 years plus what happened to it afterwards.
Acknowledgments, to authors of all sources found, are in the footnotes.
